About Alex Torres
I started playing chess at age nine in Madrid, introduced to the game by my grandfather — a club player who believed chess was the clearest mirror of logical thinking. By sixteen, I was competing in regional youth tournaments across Spain. By twenty, I had earned my FIDE rating and was spending more time studying engine analysis than I was sleeping.
My professional background is in computer science and software engineering, which gave me a deep appreciation for what chess engines actually do. Stockfish isn’t magic — it’s alpha-beta pruning, NNUE evaluation, and millions of carefully structured calculations per second. Understanding the algorithm behind the move is what separates players who improve from players who plateau.

Every position, opening line, tactical pattern, and endgame technique published on ChessAlgo.com is verified using Stockfish 17 at depth 25 or higher before publication. No theoretical claims are made without engine confirmation.
Practical Translation
Engine output alone is not useful to most players. Every analysis is translated into practical language — explaining not just what the best move is, but why, what the plan is, and how to recognize similar positions in your own games.
Rating-Range Relevance
Advice is calibrated to the most likely reader. Opening theory for a 1000-rated player looks completely different from theory for a 1600-rated player. ChessAlgo content specifies which rating ranges each concept is most relevant for.
